Is Life Not More Than Food?

I'm a worrywart.  I don't want to be and God is helping me learn not to be.  When He said, "O ye of little faith," He was talking to me!  Worry stems from lack of faith.  We worry because we think God is not able.  We worry because we think we can manage our lives better.  It's a control thing and people who don't feel in control find ways to gain back that sense.  But God says, "Who of you by worrying can add one hour to his life?"  Isn't He absolutely right?!  We can do nothing by worrying.  Probably one of my most teachable moments was the time when my daughter ended up in the hospital completely unable to eat or drink.  I thought, "God, how is she going to live?  She must eat in order to survive."  God slowly showed me she belonged to Him and I could trust Him with her life.  He took me to Matthew 6 and taught me in a literal sense about food and drink.  I got to the point of not fearing death but looking forward to it because it was ultimately complete restoration.  I thought I had learned this lesson until a new trial entered my life within the last couple of years that paralyzed me with fear and I started to worry again.  I allowed stress to wreak havoc on my mind and body and I lost many hours of sleep over it.

This week as I've been preparing for a baby shower for this same daughter, the one whom the book, "Please God, Take My Baby," was based upon, I'm reminded of His faithfulness, His goodness, His protection, His power.  He is the Sustainer and Creator of Life!  Not only did He NOT take my baby, He actually GAVE a baby!  When all I could see was a person wasting away in a hospital bed, God saw a baby!  When I soon will hold this new baby girl, I will hear the whisper of my Lord's words, "Is life not more than food?  Who of you by worrying can add one hour to his life?"  BUT GOD can add not only hours, but generations!  Because He IS life!

See, dear one, once again I see how small I am, how powerless, how undeserving of God's goodness, but yet I see how big is God's love!  My family is completely and forever in His hands.  This will be our fourth granddaughter.  He is raising up an entire generation of women in our family who love Him!  Our only job is to seek Him.  As we do, we see everything He alone does.  And it makes the seeking so worthwhile.  It makes all the trials reveal a purpose because they stir us to seek Him.

I can see my daughter nursing her little one in the stillness of the night and I hope she remembers Jesus' words, "Therefore I tell you, STOP being worried or anxious about your life!"  Moms have every reason to worry, or so we think.  We have a lifetime of "worry opportunities" with our children.  But wouldn't you want to do life through the words of the One who told us not to worry, that He has everything under His control?  Instead of wearing our bodies down through stress and anxiety, we can trust the One who paid our debt and raised our lives up from the dead!

See you soon, little one!  Your girl cousins cannot wait to play with you and Grammy and Papa cannot wait to hold you and feel the goodness of God.
