Away in a Manger

Away in a manger may seem very far away.  Way back in time.  A distant moment in history.  A baby’s birth that has significance to only some religious fanatics.  And yet the story of Christmas isn’t some myth or history lesson that is meaningless to us today.  It is everything, dear one.

See, the whole point of Jesus coming to earth to be born as a baby is to give us life.  John 10:10 tells us Jesus came that we may have life and have it to the FULL!  I don’t know about you, but I want life to the full.  As an EDS Mama, when things looked very hopeless, my times of talking with God were my refuge.  My circumstances looked pretty rotten from a human perspective, but I had peace in my discussions with God.  These times spent with God became my sacred, intimate visits with Him, visits where only He and I knew what we discussed and I felt life in the midst of the shadow of death.

The last couple of years have felt differently to me.  Glimmers of hope have peeked through, often enough to blind me.  I’ve gone from being a full-time caregiver, to a working mother who gladly waits quietly on the sidelines, ready to assist when I’m needed.  But one thing remains…my intimate conversations with God which He taught me in the valleys.  It’s a never-ending dialogue which carries on throughout my days, my work, my fears and anxieties, my concerns, my burdens, my joys, and my hopes.  Lately, I’ve been refreshed by cozying into a comfy chair with a blanket in the quiet of the night, and just listening for God’s voice.  May your kingdom come, may your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven, Amen.

In two more nights, it will be Christmas Eve.   I’ll be engaging in more conversations with God, telling Him how very grateful I am for the full life He so graciously gives to all.  What about you?  Do you know this life?  If you don’t, I encourage you to seek out a bible believing church so you can find this baby’s life that gives life.  It will change your life, I promise.
